Il 27 settembre a Napoli, sul sagrato del Duomo, si è tenuto l’attesissimo “Premio San Gennaro Day 2021”. Premiato il nostro Pomodorino del Piennolo.

The Consortium for the “Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio” was founded in December 2009 by a large group of small entrepreneurs believing that the territory represents true wealth, their own and that of future generations.

The Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) has been attributed to the “Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio”, pursuant to EC Reg. N. 510/06, with Regulation no. 1238 of 11.12.09 (published in the OJEU of 17.12.09).

The summary sheet was published in the OJEU C111 of 15th May 2009. Registration in the national register of protected designations and geographical indications took place with ministerial provision of 18.12.09, published in the Official Gazette no. 2 of 4.01.10, together with the Production Regulations.

THE CONSORTIUM

The Rural Territorial System of the Vesuvius-Monte Somma Complex has a total surface of 215.8 square kilometres, equal to 18% of the provincial territory. It includes the territory of 17 Municipalities, all falling within the province of Naples, as well as the Vesuvius-Monte Somma volcanic complex, most of which falls within the Vesuvius National Park.

THE TERRITORY

The “Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio” Protected Designation of Origin refers to the fruit of the tomato ecotypes of the Lycopersicon esculentum Mill species, which originally derives from the popular denominations of "Fiaschella", "Lampadina", "Patanara", "Principe Borghese" and "Re Umberto", traditionally grown on the slopes of the Vesuvius. These have the following distinctive characteristics: indeterminate growth plant; oval or slightly pruniform fruit with a pointed tip and frequent ribbing of the peduncular part; thick skin, the use of hybrids is excluded.

TYPOLOGIES

The Consortium for the “Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio” P.D.O. includes 39 mainly family-run farms, representing one of the most modern productive realities.
